The Dorper breed has its roots in South Africa, the well known leader in the Dorper and White Dorper breeds globally.
The base stud for Global Dorpers is the Dorsland Dorpers stud of Leon van Niekerk, a recognised and well known breeder in South Africa. Leon serves on the board of the South African Dorper Breeders Association. He is the owner of the farm Mons, which is situated in the very centre of South Africa with a dry, hot summer climate and cold winters, similar to the Australian Outback.
Leon is certainly not the largest breeder in South Africa but his breeding material is superb and acquired from the best genetic material available. At the Cheetah Dorper Championships held on 7 August 2009 the Dorsland Dorper Stud was nominated as the breeder of Champions, with the most overall points, including the Senior and Grand Champion ram (SMURF), Reserve Senior Champion ram (HABANNA), Junior Champion ram (BENCHMARK) and Reserve Junior Champion ram (KOOKWATER).
Several well known breeders are using genetic material from Dorsland Dorpers in their studs and all this genetic material is available through Global Livestock Genetics to the international market. Below are a few examples of genetic material from this stud used by breeders in South Africa:

This was duly done by RAMSEM.
